Preparation of Intended Nationally Determined Contributions (INDCs) and their submission to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) latest by October this year is of utmost priority for climate change officials around the world.
||Emergent Ventures India Pvt. Ltd (EVI) is at the forefront of the issue due to its long-standing experience with the technical work and the processes that brace the INDC process. In a project supported by the UNEP DTU Partnership, EVI has worked closely with national and international consultants to support Ministry of Environmental Conservation and Forestry (MOECAF), Myanmar in preparation of fair and ambitious INDC. EVI’s role involved analysis of NATCOM, NAPA and other sector specific policy documents for identification of mitigation actions and adaptation measures and their means of implementation.
Sunil Sharma (Senior Manager - Climate Change) was in Myanmar to support MOECAF in preparation of INDC and national stakeholder consultation. Referring to stakeholder consultation meeting, he said “There was active participation from various ministries in the national workshop held on 05th August 2015.
Their feedbacks were instrumental for improvement of INDC. Stakeholders considered this INDC as an opportunity to showcase Myanmar’s preparedness to fight climate change”.
He further added “Myanmar is net GHG emissions sink despite this, country is facing the serious negative impacts of climate change caused by industrialized nations. The present INDC highlights Myanmar’s commitment to limit growth of its future GHG emissions keeping balance between economic development and environmental sustainability. However this requires support from external community to support country in achieving actions highlighted in INDC”.
